Opposition parties cease House obstruction

Due to opposition party obstruction, the House of Representatives and National Assembly meetings have been postponed.
As soon as the National Assembly meeting began on Wednesday, CPN-UML legislators disrupted it, demanding that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal resign for his recent comments.

On Monday, at the introduction of the book ‘Roads to the Valley: The Legacy of Sardar Pritam Singh in Nepal’, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal made a controversial remark. The book is an autobiography written by Kirandeep Sandhu about Pritam Singh.

Dahal, speaking at the event, praised Singh for his numerous endeavors to make him prime minister.

“He [Singh] frequently visited Delhi. Multiple meetings with politicians and associates were held for the same purpose.

At the meeting of the upper house, UML lawmaker Devendra Dahal expressed his concern that the prime minister’s remarks would undermine the nation’s sovereignty.

Who chooses the prime minister? In whose direction are they to be assigned? Does Delhi determine who will undertake said office? asked the UML lawmaker. “If that is the case, then we will not accept him as our prime minister. We demand his resignation.”

Similarly, the House of Representatives meeting was postponed for a half-hour after UML lawmakers disrupted the meeting with the same argument.

The members of the lower house had also demanded the prime minister’s resignation, citing the unsettling nature of his remarks.
“Based on the prime minister’s statements, he must resign for moral reasons. We do not need a prime minister appointed by Delhi, said Raghuji Panta, a member of the UML in the Nepalese parliament. “This house meeting cannot continue until the resignation has been submitted. We need a prime minister with dignity.”

Panta continued by stating that the nation required a dignified prime minister and not someone who serves foreign powers.
In response to opposition party obstruction, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and head of the National Assembly postponed the meeting. The lower House will now convene on Friday at 3 p.m., while the national assembly will be held tomorrow.

Additionally, other opposition parties, including the Rastriya Swatantra Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, joined the CPN-UML in protesting the prime minister’s comments.
